The Volunteer Companion Program is an in-home
respite service serving Waterloo Region.
It provides caregivers with short term relief
from their care giving role and provides recreational/social stimulation and
supervision to people with Alzheimer Disease or a related dementias.
About the program:
A volunteer visits from 1-4 hours each
week at a regular time convenient to both the family and the volunteer.
Volunteers encourage the participant to
engage in a variety of enjoyable activities that are geared to the person's
abilities and interests.
Support is provided to the volunteer and
family though close contact with the program coordinator.
Volunteers are 18 and older, and receive
12 hours of initial training as well as ongoing educational activities.
The program is based on the need for
respite care and social opportunities.
 | Participants must live in their own home
with their caregiver and have Alzheimer Disease or a related dementia. |
